TRASPARENZA by Jaime Graschinsky - The Venice Glass Week 2018

The Venice Glass Week is the first international festival dedicated to glass art in the city.

From the 9th to the 16th of September 2018 will take place the second edition of the initiative, sponsored by Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti e Consorzio Promovetro Murano together with the Comune di Venezia.

The gallery Marco Polo International, a reference point in the international artistic hand-made glass scene, is proud to announce the participation to the festival presenting the project “Trasparenza” by the artist Jaime Graschinsky curated by Nicola Fortunati.

Trasparenza

Jaime Graschinsky sees in glass an expressive material that he investigate in a different way from the ones we are used to see in Murano, at the same time unique and interesting.

Mass and transparence, are the distinctive characters of his production, they are articulated in a complex and recognizable dialectic, enriched by shades and reflections.

The vitreous paste is worked beyond its capabilities. The material is forced to a process of transformation that magnifies the morphological properties through the denial of themselves. Glass form solid becomes liquid to, once again, change in a solid form. The artist is the man behind the compositional metamorphosis moved by the research of a new expression of the investigated medium.

For Graschinsky, the observation of the artwork has a maieutic value. The work of the artist evoke a complexity of multidimensional representation. The viewer is guided by the path of the light that shines through the sculptures. Reflections, transparencies and colors are the result of the essence of the artworks and with it they have to share the scene. The contrast between what is and what is not is in the lead. Transparency is given from the artist to the observer as a tool for the individual research of the truth.

Jaime Graschinsky

Jaime Graschinsky was born in Buenos Aires. He worked as a professional photographer and then developed a long activity as a short filmmaker in Argentina and Mexico.

Glass attracted him since his childhood. When he saw, for the first time, his father working on the beveling of large mirrors he was extremely impressed by the reflections this material makes when it catches the light.

His passion for art and the long activity as filmmaker converged in the making of the short film about the work of Antonio Pujía, shot with Perla Lich. The film received many nationals and internationals prizes.

Alongside the career as filmmaker, he continued to grow his deep connection with the glass and art world. He studied sculpture with Juan Antonio Córdoba and more recently with Carlos Herzberg. He made seminaries in Argentina and Spain with Karina Del Sabio, Silvia Lebenson, Pilar Aldana Mendez.

His search culminates in the combination of glass, transparency and light’s reflections. His artwork is aware of a different look, aware of the time he spent in the photography and the film industry.
